POLICIES & PROCEDURES
The Explorers program is a fee-based program available to students at East who wish to pursue after school interests. Please read the following registration procedures and policies thoroughly as you consider after school activities for your child. The following ensures a safe and successful after school program.
REGISTRATION
Registration Online Begins Tuesday, December 16th at 10amPlease make certain you have a "Household Account" with your student as a "member" of the household before trying to register
Parents may register online at www.hinghamrec.com or by calling the Hingham Rec office at 781-741-1464
Registration is on a first come, first served basis
Your child’s participation in a given course is confirmed through an email receipt confirming payment
If your child has an allergy, please note that when registering in the medical alert note section
DISCIPLINE
Students are to meet the same expectations for behavior as for the regular school day. Students should show care and respect to the instructor and their peers. If a child’s behavior becomes a disruption, parents will be notified and the appropriate course of action will be followed, which can include dismissal from the program with no refund. By registering your child, you agree to the terms of the programs.
DISMISSAL & SAFETY PROCEDURES
Explorers children are dismissed first at the end of the day. They should listen to the announcement which says “Explorers Students report to the gym.” They should bring their coat and backpack as if they are leaving for the day. All children will be picked up at the gym by parent or guardian at 4:05pm (unless otherwise stated in program description). Please park and enter the gym to pick up your child. To ensure the safety of the children, please have your ID ready. If your child will be walking home or picked up by someone other than the parent, please call the Hingham Rec office.
OFF-SITE & PERFORMANCE CLASSES
Please note the course descriptions to see if your child’s course has a last class share, performance, or off-site workshop. We encourage parent or guardian attendance.
ABSENTEE POLICY
Please notify the Hingham Rec at 781-741-1464 before 2pm if your child is unable to attend class that day. There are no make-up classes or refunds for student absences. In the event an instructor is absent, parents will be notified as soon as possible and students will be sent home at their normal dismissal time. If we are unable to reach you, the student will remain in the school office until a parent can be reached.
Program Descriptions Winter 2026
Acting
Gr. K-5 (Wednesdays 1/14-2/11) No Class 2/4
Acting is designed for the student who is interested learning about acting and performance techniques. Introductory skills will be taught and developed in acting, character development, as well as various exercises. Parents are welcome to come early on the last day for a short performance!

Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader
Gr. 3-5 (Tuesdays 1/13-2/10)
This program is an exciting fun challenge to spark a passion for problem solving. Through engaging interactive sessions, students will tackle puzzles, brain teasers and real-world math applications in a fun competitive game show setting.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Gr. K-5 (Tuesdays 1/13-2/10)
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches discipline, patience, respect, sportsmanship, and self-control. Martial Arts emphasizes a combination of mind and body awareness that brings every practitioner closer to their goals. Cheerleading

It’s time to channel all that energy into the team sport specifically designed for bursts and jumps and shouts and tumbles—dances, leaps, and camaraderie!
Cheerleading is the sport that challenges even the most energized students to push themselves to the next level. This 5 week program will focus on foundational skills and routines as well as designing specific cheers so our elite squad can take ownership of their team.

Edible Garden

Join Holly Hill Farm Educators for outdoor educational activities including healthy cooking from the late fall garden, outdoor exploration, and nature themed games and crafts.

Harbor Media
Gr. 3-5 (Tuesdays 1/13-2/10)
Taught by Harbor Media, Hingham's local community TV provider since 2011, the Youth Television course teaches students all aspects of modern video production. Students will work in groups to cre-ate short-form content that may include interviews, fictional dialogue and instructional for informational and educational purposes. These videos will be aired on Harbor Media's local TV channels and online outlets. www.HarborMedia.org

Multisport

This all-encompassing program features a comprehensive selection of sports such as Soccer, Flag Football, and Basketball. Parents can equip their children with invaluable life skills and expose them to the wonders of sports at an early age. Rec Arts: Paint and Create
Gr. K-2 (Tuesdays 1/13-2/10)
Gr. 3-5 (Mondays 1/12-2/9) No Class 1/19
It’s time to make something beautiful. This is the class to explore and fashion the artistic vision in-side all of us. From watercolors, to paint sticks, to sponges, to fingers, it’s time to create something out of our students’ imaginations. Every week we will explore different ideas and different ways of getting ideas out of our heads and out there in the world for everyone to see and share.

Rec Games
Gr. K-5 (Thursdays 1/15-2/12)
It's time to put away the controllers and the online multiplayers and break out the table and face-to-face battleship sinking. We want to get them excited about Risk, and Life, Checkers and maybe even Parcheesi. For an hour we will harken back to the days where you tell someone they forgot to say Uno with a wry smile on your face that they can actually see.
