After School Enrichment Classes

Please read the following registration procedures and policies thoroughly as you consider after school activities for your child. The following ensures a safe and successful after school program. REGISTRATIONRegistration Online Begins Thursday, September 17th at 10amPlease make certain you have a "Household Account" with your student as a "member" of the household before trying to registerParents may register online at www.hinghamrec.com or by calling the Hingham Rec office at 781-741-1464Registration is on a first come, first served basisYour child’s participation in a given course is confirmed through an email receipt confirming paymentIf your child has an allergy, please note that when registering in the medical alert note sectionDISCIPLINEStudents are to meet the same expectations for behavior as for the regular school day. Students should show care and respect to the instructor and their peers. If a child’s behavior becomes a disruption, parents will be notified and the appropriate course of action will be followed, which can include dismissal from the program with no refund. By registering your child, you agree to the terms of the programs.DISMISSAL & SAFETY PROCEDURESExplorers children are dismissed first at the end of the day. They should listen to the announcement which says “Explorers Students report to the gym.” They should bring their coat and backpack as if they are leaving for the day. All children will be picked up at the main entrance by parent or guardian at 4:05pm (unless otherwise stated in program description). Please park and wait at the front entrance to pick up your child. To ensure the safety of the children, please have your ID ready. If your child will be walking home or picked up by someone other than the parent, please call the Hingham Rec office. Please remember to change your Pick Up Patrol to let the school know your child will be staying for East Explorers. OFF-SITE & PERFORMANCE CLASSESPlease note the course descriptions to see if your child’s course has a last class share, performance, or off-site workshop. We encourage parent or guardian attendance. ABSENTEE POLICYPlease notify the Hingham Rec at 781-741-1464 before 2pm if your child is unable to attend class that day. There are no make-up classes or refunds for student absences. In the event an instructor is absent, parents will be notified as soon as possible and students will be sent home at their normal dismissal time. If we are unable to reach you, the student will remain in the school office until a parent can be reached.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Self Defense
Gr. K-5 (Tuesdays 11/10-12/15)
In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Self-Defense, we focus on skills that will encourage self-confidence in all aspects of children’s lives. We teach discipline, patience, respect, sportsmanship, and self-control. Jiu-Jitsu’s core principles focus on awareness, balance, and leverage. Cheerleading
Gr. K-5 (Thursdays 11/12-12/17) No Class 11/26
It’s time to channel all that energy into the team sport specifically designed for bursts and jumps and shouts and tumbles—dances, leaps, and camaraderie!
Cheerleading is the sport that challenges even the most energized students to push themselves to the next level. This 5 week program will focus on foundational skills and routines as well as designing specific cheers so our elite squad can take ownership of their team.

Cookie Decorating

A creative cookie and cupcake decorating class, Betsy will provide fun and unique ways for the children to create their own ideas or follow examples!

Edible Garden– Entrepreneurial Edition!
Gr. 3-5 (Thursdays 11/12-12/17)
During this program we will prepare healthy dishes to eat while learning about all that is involved in bringing food to our plates. The emphasis is on making food using simple and fresh ingredients. Students may also try their hand at running a mini-farmer’s market and pop-up food stand as well as creating feasts for the eyes with crafts using natural materials.

Futsal
Gr. K-2 (Mondays 11/9-12/14)
Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided soccer game that is played across the world. It is a 5 v 5 small-sided game played on a hard surfaced, basketball sized court with a smaller, low bounce ball. The sport is a great skill developer as it demands quick reflexes, fast thinking and pin-point passing. Futsal maximizes active participation and minimizes inactivity and boredom. This is a great activity for the experienced soccer player as well someone who has never played soccer before.

Gr. K-2 (Thursdays 11/12-12/17)
This program aims to get children outdoors in the garden and in nature whenever possible. As the world prepares for winter, there is so much to notice and explore outside! We will also celebrate the food from the late fall garden by cooking and preparing healthy dishes and we will use our creativity by making nature-themed crafts.

Knitting
Gr. 3-5 (Wednesdays 11/18-12/16) No Class 11/25, 12/9
Have you ever looked at a pair of knitting needles and thought, “Could I do that?” The answer is, YES! Yes you can! Our Knitting class will focus on the techniques at the foundation of the age-old art of knitting. In this inclusive and fun environment we will learn stitches and focus on a project that our students can take pride in creating. All levels are welcome.

This all-encompassing program features a comprehensive selection of sports such as Floor Hockey, Soccer, Flag Football, and Basketball. Rec Arts: Slime

Time for a hands-on Slime Experience! In this 6 week class every day we will focus on indulging the designer inside all of us. In this session all sorts of slime will be the featured focus. Colors, textures, stickiness, elasticity… time to explore. Aprons or clothing that can get a little messy recommended
