POLICIES & PROCEDURES
The after school program is a fee-based program available to students at Foster who wish to pursue after school interests. Please read the following registration procedures and policies thoroughly as you consider after school activities for your child. The following ensures a safe and successful after school program.
 
  
REGISTRATION
  • Registration opens Thursday, February 12th at 10am
  • Parents may register online at www.hinghamrec.com or by calling the Hingham Rec office at 781-741-1464
  • Each Household must create an online household account and add each participating student as a member.
  • Registration is on a first come, first served basis
  • Your child’s participation in a given course is confirmed through an email receipt confirming payment
  • If your child has an allergy, please note that when registering in the medical alert note section
 

DISCIPLINE
Students are to meet the same expectations for behavior as  for the regular school day. Students should show care and respect to the instructor and their peers. If a child’s behavior becomes a disruption, parents will be notified and the appropriate course of action will be  followed, which can include dismissal from the program with no refund. By registering your child, you agree to the terms of the programs.
 
DISMISSAL & SAFETY PROCEDURES
Foster PLUS children are dismissed first at the end of the day. They should   listen to the announcement which says “Foster PLUS Students report to the room 119.” They should bring their coat and backpack as if they are leaving for the day. All children will be picked up in room 119 by parent or guardian at 3:35pm (unless otherwise stated in program description). Please park and enter the side door by gym to pick up your child. To ensure the safety of the children, please have your ID ready.  If your child will be walking home or picked up by someone other than the parent, please call the Hingham Rec office. Please remember to change your Pick Up Patrol to let the school know your child will be staying for Foster PLUS.

 
OFF-SITE & PERFORMANCE CLASSES
Please note the course descriptions to see if your child’s course has a last class share, performance, or off-site workshop. We encourage parent or guardian attendance.
 
ABSENTEE POLICY
Please notify the Hingham Rec at 781-741-1464 before 2pm if your child is unable to attend class that day. There are no make-up classes or refunds for student absences. In the event an instructor is absent, parents will be notified as soon as possible and students will be sent home at their normal dismissal time. If we are unable to reach you, the student will remain in the school office until a parent can be reached. 
 



Program Descriptions Winter Spring 2026

Art Explorers
Gr. K-2 (Thursdays 3/5-4/16) 
Gr. 3-5 (Mondays 3/2-4/13)
Create works of art using many types of materials including cardboard, tinfoil, canvas, painted paper to name a few. Experiment with multiple mediums such as chalk pastels, oil pastels, metallic markers, paint, glitter and more. Explore these art techniques to create your own style of artwork.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Gr. K-5 (Mondays 3/2-4/13) 
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches discipline, patience, respect, sportsmanship, and self-control.  Martial Arts emphasizes a combination of mind and body awareness that brings every practitioner closer to their goals.   Dedeco BJJ has over 30 years of experience helping kids build self-confidence through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Cheerleading
Gr. K-5 (Thursdays 3/11-4/15)
It’s time to channel all that energy into the team sport specifically designed for bursts and jumps and shouts and tumbles—dances, leaps, and camaraderie!
Cheerleading is the sport that challenges even the most energized students to push themselves to the next level. This 5 week program will focus on foundational skills and routines as well as designing specific cheers so our elite squad can take ownership of their team.

Dodgeball
Gr. 3-5 (Fridays 3/6-4/17) No class 4/3
The ancient art of Dodgeball has returned to East Explorers. Bring your gameface and be ready to excel. Students will be encouraged to have fun, work as a team, engage in good sportsmanship and be active, all while throwing balls at their opponents. It truly is Sport at its finest. Time to dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge!

Edible Garden and Inch By Inch Row By Row

Spring is an exciting time to get outside to see more signs of life out in nature and in the garden. We will get hands-on experience in the school garden by helping to nurture spring crops, explore nearby outdoor areas to see how our local plant and animal neighbors begin to thrive again in spring, try food from the spring garden by cooking and preparing healthy dishes, and make nature-themed crafts.
This program is an excellent way to help children develop a real-world understanding of the science of cultivating crops and nurturing ecosystems. We will have fun digging into soil science, sowing seeds, harvesting early spring crops, and enjoying the harvest by preparing healthy dishes to eat. In addition, we will explore the surrounding natural systems and enjoy tracking the shift of seasons and the plant and animal life all around us

Harbor Media
Gr. 3-5 (Tuesdays 3/3– 4/14)
In this hands on investigation of what goes in to creating a short film, young artists will work from beginning to end to create their own work of theatrical art. Camera Angles, Multiple takes, dialogue, transitions, lighting, sounds… This workshop focuses on finding our filmmakers perspective and using that perspective to create film.

Homework Club

Join Homework Club! Homework Club provides a structured, supportive environment where students can complete assignments while developing important executive functioning and study skills such as organization, time management, focus, planning, and self-monitoring. Our goal is to help students foster independence and build confidence in their ability to manage schoolwork so that families can enjoy calmer evenings at home without homework battles.

Magnitude: Strength  + Power
Gr. 2-5 (Tuesdays 3/3– 4/14)
Join Magnitude Strength & Power for a speed and agility session that makes getting faster fun! Learn some of the important speed drills our athletes are doing every day at Magnitude, plus play fun games that will have you sprinting, cutting, and changing direction faster than ever.

Multisport

This all-encompassing program features a comprehensive selection of sports such as Soccer, Flag Football, and Basketball. Parents can equip their children with invaluable life skills and expose them to the wonders of sports at an early age. Rising Stars, Intro to Music and Theater And Rising Stars Jr.
Gr.K-2 (Tuesdays  3/3-4/14)
Gr. 3-5 (Thursdays 3/5-4/16)
Students will have the opportunity to explore singing, dancing, and acting in a supportive, low-pressure environment that encourages creativity, confidence, and teamwork. Through fun improv exercises and songs from popular musicals like “Wicked” and “& Juliet”, they’ll make friends and build new skills while discovering how much they can shine both on and off the stage.  Whether you’re new to the stage or already an aspiring performer, these classes offer an exciting look into the world of music and theater.

In our Crafting Era
Gr. 4&5 (Fridays 3/6-4/17) No  Class 4/3
Join Mrs. Pravia for a fun place to hang out and make the cutest DIYs! We’ll be making aesthetic projects like customized charm claw clips, mermaid hairbrushes, ELF lip gloss keychains, seashell trinket dishes, and Polaroid locker frames. It’s the perfect spot to grab your besties, listen to some music (Taylor Swift, anyone?), and just gab and craft. This club is open to all fourth and fifth graders, so be sure to sign up soon to join the fun!

Welcome to Minecraft Club and Lego Essentials- fun and educational environments where players can explore, build, and collaborate within the popular virtual world of  Minecraft and the Endless possibilities of Legos. Our classes aim to foster creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills through engaging gameplay and structured activities.
