POLICIES & PROCEDURES
The after school program is a fee-based program available to students at Foster who wish to pursue after school interests. Please read the following registration procedures and policies thoroughly as you consider after school activities for your child. The following ensures a safe and successful after school program.
 
  
REGISTRATION

• Registration opens Thursday, September 17th at 10am
• Parents may register online at www.hinghamrec.com or by calling the Hingham Rec office at 781-741-1464
• Each Household must create an online household account and add each participating student as a member.
• Registration is on a first come, first served basis
• Your child’s participation in a given course is confirmed through an email receipt confirming payment
• If your child has an allergy, please note that when registering in the medical alert note section

 

DISCIPLINE
Students are to meet the same expectations for behavior as  for the regular school day. Students should show care and respect to the instructor and their peers. If a child’s behavior becomes a disruption, parents will be notified and the appropriate course of action will be  followed, which can include dismissal from the program with no refund. By registering your child, you agree to the terms of the programs.
 
DISMISSAL & SAFETY PROCEDURES
Foster PLUS children are dismissed first at the end of the day. They should   listen to the announcement which says “Foster PLUS Students report to the room 119.” They should bring their coat and backpack as if they are leaving for the day. All children will be picked up in room 119 by parent or guardian at 3:35pm (unless otherwise stated in program description). Please park and enter the side door by gym to pick up your child. To ensure the safety of the children, please have your ID ready.  If your child will be walking home or picked up by someone other than the parent, please call the Hingham Rec office. Please remember to change your Pick Up Patrol to let the school know your child will be staying for Foster PLUS.

 
OFF-SITE & PERFORMANCE CLASSES
Please note the course descriptions to see if your child’s course has a last class share, performance, or off-site workshop. We encourage parent or guardian attendance.
 
ABSENTEE POLICY
Please notify the Hingham Rec at 781-741-1464 before 2pm if your child is unable to attend class that day. There are no make-up classes or refunds for student absences. In the event an instructor is absent, parents will be notified as soon as possible and students will be sent home at their normal dismissal time. If we are unable to reach you, the student will remain in the school office until a parent can be reached. 
 



Program Descriptions Fall 2026

Art Explorers
Gr. K-2 (Fridays 10/2– 10/30) 
Gr. 3-5 (Wednesdays 9/30-10/28  No Class 10/7
Create works of art using many types of materials including cardboard, tinfoil, canvas, painted paper to name a few. Experiment with multiple mediums such as chalk pastels, oil pastels, metallic markers, paint, glitter and more. Explore these art techniques to create your own style of artwork.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Gr. K-5 (Mondays 9/28-10/26)  No Class 10/12
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches discipline, patience, respect, sportsmanship, and self-control.  Martial Arts emphasizes a combination of mind and body awareness that brings every practitioner closer to their goals.   Dedeco BJJ has over 30 years of experience helping kids build self-confidence through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Edible Garden
Gr. 3-5 (Mondays 9/28-10/26)  No Class 10/12
Get outside and into the school garden with Holly Hill Farm. We will use our time each week to tend the garden and learn about what crops need. After our work is done, we will sample fresh produce, play games, and create nature themed crafts.

Fun with Beads and Things
Gr. 4-5 ( Thursdays 10/1– 10/29)  
Get ready for some beadtastic  craftilations! Let’s make something with fun and style. Perler bead creations, bracelets and charms, Shrinky Dinks and more.

Gym Hockey
Gr. K-5 ( Thursdays 10/1– 10/29)  
Is there a better idea than handing 3rd, 4th and 5th grader foam tipped sticks and a tennis ball and encouraging  them to embrace the spirit of good-natured competitive fun?  Not a chance. Whether you are the Gym Hockey Master or just looking to have a little fun with your friends on Wednesdays and run around, Gym Hockey Wednesdays is the perfect choice.

Inch By Inch Row By Row
Gr. K-2 (Mondays 9/28-10/26)  No Class 10/12
This program is an excellent way to help children develop a real-world understanding of the science of cultivating crops and nurturing ecosystems. We will have fun digging into soil science, harvesting fall crops, and enjoying the harvest by preparing healthy dishes to eat. In addition, we will explore the surrounding natural systems and enjoy tracking the shift of seasons and the plant and animal life all around us.

Magnitude: Strength  + Power
Gr. 2-5 (Tuesdays 9/29– 10/27)
Join Magnitude Strength & Power for a speed and agility session that makes getting faster fun! Learn some of the important speed drills our athletes are doing every day at Magnitude, plus play fun games that will have you sprinting, cutting, and changing direction faster than ever.

Multisport
Gr. K-2 (Wednesdays 9/30-10/28) 
Gr. 3-5 (Fridays 10/2– 10/30) 
This all-encompassing program features a comprehensive selection of sports such as Soccer, Flag Football, and Basketball. Parents can equip their children with invaluable life skills and expose them to the wonders of sports at an early age. Don't miss out on the opportunity to learn more about the compelling benefits of sports!

Pokémon Club
Gr. 3-5 ( Fridays 10/2– 10/30)  
Calling all Pokémon Trainers! Pokémon Club is open to students in grades 3–5 and meets Fridays from 2:35–3:35 PM in Mrs. Pravia’s classroom. Students will enjoy Pokémon-themed games, trivia, crafts, challenges, drawing activities, and trading-card fun while connecting with other Pokémon fans. Each week will feature a new activity and plenty of opportunities to share favorite Pokémon, cards, and collectibles. Whether you’re a longtime Pokémon fan or just starting your journey, everyone is welcome!

Rising Stars, Intro to Acting Creativity, Confidence & Connection
Gr. K-2 (Tuesdays 9/29– 10/27)
Gr. 3-5 ( Thursdays 10/1– 10/29)  
A fun, energetic class where kids can play, imagine, connect, and build confidence! Through theater games, storytelling, improvisation, character activities, scenes, and other creative challenges, students will explore new ways to express themselves, work with others, and think on their feet.
Develop confidence, communication skills, creativity, teamwork, and self-expression —  There’s no “wrong” way to be creative.  Along the way, kids will become more comfortable sharing their ideas, using their voices, and speaking in front of others — helping them feel more confident participating in the classroom and everyday life.
No acting experience necessary! Come ready to play, create, move, make friends, and grow in confidence.

Slime and Squishy Club
Gr. 3-5 Mondays 9/28-10/26)  No Class 10/12
Slime and Squishy Club- Join the Slime and Squishy Club! Open to all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders! This after-school club meets in Mrs. Pravia’s room on Mondays from 2:35–3:35 PM. Come showcase your favorite squishies, share the best Nee Doh hunting spots, and create awesome slime recipes each week, including butter slime, fluffy slime, and more. Discover the science behind slime while having fun with friends. Students will go home with a brand new slime creation each week! Plus, don’t miss out on fun Nee Dohs and other squishy surprises. It’s the perfect mix of creativity, science, and fun!

Welcome to Minecraft Club and Lego Essentials- fun and educational environments where players can explore, build, and collaborate within the popular virtual world of  Minecraft and the Endless possibilities of Legos. Our classes aim to foster creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills through engaging gameplay and structured activities.
