POLICIES & PROCEDURES
The after school program is a fee-based program available to students at Foster who wish to pursue after school interests. Please read the following registration procedures and policies thoroughly as you consider after school activities for your child. The following ensures a safe and successful after school program.
 
  
REGISTRATION
  • Registration opens Thursday, December 18 at 10am
  • Parents may register online at www.hinghamrec.com or by calling the Hingham Rec office at 781-741-1464
  • Each Household must create an online household account and add each participating student as a member.
  • Registration is on a first come, first served basis
  • Your child’s participation in a given course is confirmed through an email receipt confirming payment
  • If your child has an allergy, please note that when registering in the medical alert note section
 

DISCIPLINE
Students are to meet the same expectations for behavior as  for the regular school day. Students should show care and respect to the instructor and their peers. If a child’s behavior becomes a disruption, parents will be notified and the appropriate course of action will be  followed, which can include dismissal from the program with no refund. By registering your child, you agree to the terms of the programs.
 
DISMISSAL & SAFETY PROCEDURES
Foster PLUS children are dismissed first at the end of the day. They should   listen to the announcement which says “Foster PLUS Students report to the room 119.” They should bring their coat and backpack as if they are leaving for the day. All children will be picked up in room 119 by parent or guardian at 3:35pm (unless otherwise stated in program description). Please park and enter the side door by gym to pick up your child. To ensure the safety of the children, please have your ID ready.  If your child will be walking home or picked up by someone other than the parent, please call the Hingham Rec office.
 
OFF-SITE & PERFORMANCE CLASSES
Please note the course descriptions to see if your child’s course has a last class share, performance, or off-site workshop. We encourage parent or guardian attendance.
 
ABSENTEE POLICY
Please notify the Hingham Rec at 781-741-1464 before 2pm if your child is unable to attend class that day. There are no make-up classes or refunds for student absences. In the event an instructor is absent, parents will be notified as soon as possible and students will be sent home at their normal dismissal time. If we are unable to reach you, the student will remain in the school office until a parent can be reached. 
 



Program Descriptions  Winter 2026

Art Explorers
Gr. K-2 (Thursdays 1/15-2/12
Gr. 3-5 (Mondays 1/12– 2/9) No Class 1/19
Create works of art using many types of materials including cardboard, tinfoil, canvas, painted paper to name a few. Experiment with multiple mediums such as chalk pastels, oil pastels, metallic markers, paint, glitter and more. Explore these art techniques to create your own style of artwork.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Gr. K-5 (Mondays 1/12-2/9)  No Class 1/19
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches discipline, patience, respect, sportsmanship, and self-control.  Martial Arts emphasizes a combination of mind and body awareness that brings every practitioner closer to their goals.   Dedeco BJJ has over 30 years of experience helping kids build self-confidence through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Cheerleading
Gr. K-5 (Wednesdays 1/14-2/11)
It’s time to channel all that energy into the team sport specifically designed for bursts and jumps and shouts and tumbles—dances, leaps, and camaraderie!
Cheerleading is the sport that challenges even the most energized students to push themselves to the next level. This 5 week program will focus on foundational skills and routines as well as designing specific cheers so our elite squad can take ownership of their team.

Edible Garden
Gr. K-2 (Thursdays 1/15-2/12)
Join Holly Hill Farm Educators for outdoor educational activities including healthy cooking from the late fall garden, outdoor exploration, and nature themed games and crafts.

Futsal
Gr. K-2 Thursdays 1/15-2/12)
Gr. 3-5 (Fridays 1/16– 2/13)
Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided soccer game that is played across the world. It is a 5 v 5 small-sided game played on a hard surfaced, basketball sized court with a smaller, low bounce ball. The sport is a great skill developer as it demands quick reflexes, fast thinking and pin-point passing. Futsal maximizes active participation and minimizes inactivity and boredom. This is a great activity for the experienced soccer player as well someone who has never played soccer before.

Homework Club
Gr. 3-5  (Mondays 1/12-2/9) No Class 1/19

Gr.3-5  (Thursdays 1/15– 2/12)
Join Homework Club! Homework Club provides a structured, supportive environment where students can complete assignments while developing important executive functioning and study skills such as organization, time management, focus, planning, and self-monitoring. Our goal is to help students foster independence and build confidence in their ability to manage schoolwork so that families can enjoy calmer evenings at home without homework battles.

Multisport
Gr. K-5 (Tuesdays 1/13– 2/10)
This all-encompassing program features a comprehensive selection of sports such as Soccer, Flag Football, and Basketball. Parents can equip their children with invaluable life skills and expose them to the wonders of sports at an early age. Don't miss out on the opportunity to learn more about the compelling benefits of sports!

Rec Arts: bracelets and more
Gr. K-2 (Wednesdays 1/14-2/11) No Class 2/4
Gr. 3-5 (Tuesdays 1/13– 2/10)
Time to go beyond Friendship!
In this class every day we will focus on indulging the designer inside all of us. In this session creating bracelets and necklaces and other like-accoutrement will be the featured focus. Details, vibes, fun, and free-spirits are ready to be indulged and explored

Rec Games
Gr. K-5 (Fridays 1/16-2/13)
It's time to put away the controllers and the online multiplayers and break out the table and face-to-face battleship sinking. We want to get them excited about Risk, and Life, Checkers and maybe even Parcheesi. For an hour we will harken back to the days where you tell someone they forgot to say Uno with a wry smile on your face that they can actually see.

Rising Stars, Intro to Music and Theater
Gr. 3-5 (Thursdays 1/15-2/12)
Join our Musical Theater Class and step into the spotlight!  Whether you’re new to the stage or already an aspiring performer, this class offers an exciting look into the world of music and theater. Students will have the opportunity to explore singing, dancing, and acting in a supportive, low-pressure environment that encourages creativity, confidence, and teamwork. Through fun scenes and songs from popular musicals like Wicked, Shrek, and Matilda, they’ll build skills while discovering how much they can shine both on and off the stage.

Spanish
Gr. 2-5 (Thursdays 1/15-2/12)
A fun recreational way to become more familiar with speaking Spanish. This class uses games and activities to introduce and reinforce common Spanish words, phrases and ideas. All levels are welcome.

STEM: Minecraft Club
Gr. 1-4 (Tuesdays 1/13– 2/10)
Welcome to Minecraft Club-a fun and educational environment where players can explore, build, and collaborate within the popular virtual world of  Minecraft. Our club aims to foster creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills through engaging gameplay and structured activities.
